A case could be made for either one of these options, but even then it wouldn’t really be spot-on. Rather than pigeonholing Lewis or Clark as having yin or yang qualities (which I initially tried to do when I set out to draw this concept, to my eventual frustration!), it’s safer to say that what qualities they did possess created a perfect balance. As co-captains—and as friends—their personalities, skill sets, & etc. complemented one another.

  2. I’m not sure how I feel about this???

  3. The current issue of mental_floss has Lewis & Clark in comic form since it was the greatest road trip of all time (theme of the issue). It includes Jefferson riding a dinosaur. I can’t handle it.

  4. I had a dream last night that I was hanging out with Lewis and Clark, only it was a modern Corps of Discovery and they were both in their mid-twenties and Lewis decided to wander off into the dark wilderness by himself and Clark was all “Damn it, he’s done it again,” and was trying to fetch him and then they were both little kids and I had to babysit them and make sure they didn’t get into more trouble.

  5. I HAVE THE BEST COWORKER EVER BECAUSE FOR SECRET SANTA SHE BOUGHT ME A PRINT OF CLARK’S MAP OF THE EXPEDITION I CAN’T SEE STRAIGHT LOOK AT MY FUCKING AWESOME GIFT RIGHT NOW JUST LOOK AT IT

In another universe, Lewis and Clark rode back to Washington on a woolly mammoth and Jefferson squee’d.

I just have to reblog this again because I have it on the bulletin board by my desk so I get to enjoy this image every day and everyone else deserves the same level of giddiness.

September 23, 1806: Lewis and Clark Return from Expedition

On this day in 1806, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark returned from their two-and-a-half-year expedition, which covered the expanse from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast and back.

The two men brought back a wealth of information about the largely unexplored region within the Louisiana Purchase territory. During their expedition, Lewis and Clark studied the plants, animal life, geography and elements of economic opportunity throughout the vast area.

Check out this Lewis and Clark: Into the Unknown interactive story in which you lead the expedition.

if Lewis & Clark had taken their trip in 1968 and a film crew had joined them, this would have been on the soundtrack

Jessica I am actually not sure how to respond to this because part of me thinks that it’s pretty awesome and accurate but the other part can’t stop laughing my ass off.

That’s kinda the point XD omg can you imagine them as hippies in the 60s?

Chibi William Clark. Inspired by his rather unconventional spelling of watermelons.

this is still one of the cutest things I’ve seen

I want to squeeze him and feed him bowls of water millions

  15. Happy Birthday William Clark!

And here’s a wonderful thing about all the dates lining up this year with 1804 - this is what Clark wrote exactly 208 years ago today:

"This being my birth day I order’d a Saddle of fat Vennison, an Elk fleece & a Bevertail to be cooked and a Desert of Cheries, Plumbs, Raspberries Currents and grapes of a Supr. quallity."
